Tips for testing a new mattress in-store

If you’re considering buying a new mattress, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by choice. We recommend starting with our Mattress Selector, which is designed to provide you with tailored suggestions based on information related to your sleep and lifestyle. Once you know the type of mattress suitable for you, find your nearest approved Sealy retailer and try it in person.

Below are some of our top tips for testing out a mattress in-store:

Know your sleep habits

Take a moment beforehand to think about your sleep habits and what you’d like to improve about your current mattress. Consider these questions:

  • Are you a side sleeper or do you usually sleep on your back?
  • Do you know what type of mattress you’re currently sleeping on?
  • Has it simply become too old, worn out and saggy?
  • Does it have the right comfort level for you?
  • Are you constantly waking up with back pain?

Make yourself comfortable

Wear loose-fitting clothing that will allow you to move around comfortably. If you’re buying a new mattress with a partner, it will be important for both of you to test out the options. Feel free to take your favourite pillow with you so that you’re able to replicate your normal sleeping environment.

Take your time testing a new mattress

The only way to be sure about which mattress is right for you is to spend time on it. Don’t be shy about trying each one to get a feel for the differences. Take your shoes off and spend about 15 minutes lying on each mattress in your normal sleeping position, until you find the one you’re sure you’ll be happy with. Don’t rush, as the purchase ought to be one for the long-term.

Shop around for a bargain

If you visit different retailers, the specific models might not be an exact match, but you can compare prices by taking note of the mattress specs and model range. Sealy retailers choose their own bed names, so when you shop at different stores, the names will be different. Browse the Sealy website to view the full range from which retailers choose certain models to sell.

Shop around to find the best deal to fit your budget. Most importantly, think of your purchase as a valuable investment in yourself and your health because getting a good night’s sleep sets you up to tackle the challenges of everyday life with all the energy and enthusiasm you need.

Make sure it’s #ClearlyASealy

When shopping for your new Sealy, it is safest to make sure you are purchasing your bed from an Authorised Sealy Retailer, and you receive an official invoice. Remember, our list of authorised retailers are on the Sealy website. Click here to view a list of Sealy retailers. If the store you’re shopping at isn’t on this list, contact us to check if that store is in fact authorised to sell Sealy mattresses.

All Sealy mattresses come with a warranty, which will protect you in the unlikely event of a factory defect. Once you purchase your Sealy, register your warranty on our website. This is a good way to protect your investment. A warranty is your protection against defective workmanship – it is not a guarantee of product life or more important, of comfort life.

What does a Sealy warranty cover?

  • A factory guarantee repair or replacement period is against faulty workmanship and faulty materials, not extending to damage caused by normal wear and tear, abuse, misuse or negligence.
  • A service warranty period is the balance of the period outside of the guarantee period where the cost of repair or replacement is borne by the customer on a pro rata basis for the remainder of the service warranty period.

Made by hand and proudly South African

Spend a day at Sealy HQ and be prepared to be surprised. Even though Sealy’s mattresses are sold nationwide at hundreds of retailers, all our mattresses undergo stringent quality checks and are hand made with locally sourced materials. Attention is paid to the details; luxury is woven into every design choice and each bed is made right here in South Africa. We truly are a Proudly South African brand.

‘End-to-end attention’ is a hallmark that we pride ourselves on. Every detail — from design and research to prototypes and new product launches — is personally managed, influenced, quality checked and processed by the highly trained and precision-skilled hands of Sealy employees.

Proudly South African, made at scale

Sealy offers beds that range from entry-level to high-end luxury, and each one is hand-sewn on home soil. We see hand-made in South Africa as a badge of honour and we do our best to live up to our goal of making the highest quality Australian-made products at every price range,

Our materials are very much South African sourced, South African designed, South African hand-sewn, and tailored-for-you by South African employees.

The details are everything when it comes to Sealy beds. Our manufacturing plants produce the world’s best quality beds … We focus on the little particulars customers tend to notice, like labels being stitched on perfectly or what colour threads we use.

Design that raises the bar

Sealy’s Design and Innovation Team is well aware how maintaining a competitive advantage makes a difference to consumers. We know your bed will be part of your home for the next eight to 10 years, so we look at the trends and influences that drive interior design now and into the future. We believe that each time you change the sheets, the beautiful fabric covering the mattress makes a statement about the quality and care that go into making that mattress.

Much like retailers offer different fashion or accessory collections, the Sealy team works closely with buying teams to tailor their ranges: each retailer selects their new Sealy ‘look’ from a range of options, then Sealy crafts the collection including criteria such as design elements, colour, and accessories. Sealy retailers then choose their own bed names, so when you shop at different stores, the names will be different. Browse the Sealy website to view the full range from which retailers choose certain models to sell.

Sealy Mattress Selector: Choosing a new bed is easier than ever

Choosing a new mattress can feel daunting. There are so many variables to consider – different comfort levels, most appropriate size, what material, and of course, price. The Sealy Mattress Selector helps take the guess work out of choosing a new mattress. Simply answer a few questions online and we will recommend the best mattress for your needs.

Considering you spend up to one third of your life sleeping and most mattresses usually last five to 10 years, it should be a decision made with careful consideration. At Sealy, we’re dedicated to helping our customers find their ultimate sleep companion in a Sealy bed. If it’s time to start shopping for a new bed, below are some of our top tips for helping you find the perfect mattress:

Research

Take some time to investigate the most popular sleep brands, checking out reviews and comments.

Know the different types of materials

It can seem pretty overwhelming trying to understand the different types of materials used to make beds.

  • Pocket sprung mattresses are made from layers of spring that provide support while offering even weight distribution. Some Sealy beds are made with individually wrapped springs, which help minimise partner disturbance.
  • Foam and memory foam mattresses mould to your body and have less transfer of movement.
  • Hybrid mattresses have a combination of both. The Sealy Hybrid Collection of gel memory foam mattresses offer the best of both worlds. The top half features either luxurious Coolsmart GEL Memory Foam or Dual-Flext Hybrid Foam layers with pressure reducing properties. The bottom half is made with conforming pocket spring support. Click here to find out more about the Sealy Hybrid Collection.

Plush, medium or firm

Plush mattresses are ultra soft and a good solution for people who sleep on their side. Medium comfort levels offer a lower level of softness than the plush, and is a good middle ground for people who don’t like their beds to be too soft or to firm. The firm comfort level is most rigid and is good for people who sleep on their front or back.

However, with that said, there is no hard rule around which mattresses suit specific sleep positions. It really comes down to personal preference, and it’s wise to test out different beds in-store if you’re not sure what comfort level you like best.

Shop online only if you know what you want

If you are sure of the comfort level and materials you like best, it is usually a safe option to shop online and have your bed delivered to your home. Shop in-store if you are unsure and you want to try lying down on the beds before making your purchase. Either way, take your time to make your decision, and always ask about the return policy.

Shopping for a new mattress? Read these 5 tips

It may sound dramatic, but purchasing a new mattress is one of the most critical choices you can make. Why? Because it plays a fundamental role in your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing

It’s the Sealy Effect — people who sleep on a high-quality and comfortable mattress report improved, continued, and painless sleep. Subsequently, it reduces the possibility of developing certain diseases such as diabetes, strokes, high blood pressure, depression, and other afflictions.

But how to know what mattress is tailor-made for your needs? Take a look at the following tips

01. Understand your sleep needs before buying a new mattress

Seeking the universally perfect mattress is an exercise in futility because it does not exist. Instead, it would be best if you analysed yourself and your needs.

Evaluate your sleeping patterns and health concerns. Do you overheat quickly? Are you concerned about lower back pain or your knees? Do you sleep on your side, back, or stomach? All of these are fundamental aspects to consider beforehand and can help you navigate through mattresses options.

To help make your decision easier, we’ve developed a Mattress Selector to discover what’s most important to you when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, and provide a recommendation for a mattress based on your unique sleep profile. Click here to find out what Sealy suits you best.

02. Understand how mattresses work

After understanding your sleep patterns, the next step in your new mattress purchase journey is to research structure and materials. Each of them provides different benefits that may align with what your body needs.

For example, most high-quality mattresses nowadays have three types of constructions—foam that allows you to sink into it, innerspring providing solid support for the body, and a hybrid between both. Likewise, many options feature cooling technologies to combat the heat or orthopaedic support to relieve pressure in certain areas.

03. Quality and comfort should be your priority

Budget concerns are near impossible to ignore, but it is worth investing in a good quality mattress, focussing on quality and comfort instead. Why? Keep in mind that people sleep for approximately one third of their day, and a mattress’ lifetime is around 10 years. As such, in total, you will spend approximately three years of your life on the mattress you choose. Nearly one-third of your next decade.

Remember the Sealy Effect—investing in a good mattress is investing in your wellbeing.

04. Buying online? Take note of trial periods and return policies

The days of having to make in-store purchases are long gone, and nowadays, buying a mattress can be a 100% online deal. However, it can be intimidating to choose one without actually trying it beforehand.

To counter this hesitation, make sure to purchase your preferred option at an online retailer with clear, concise, and explicit trial periods and return policies. Consider you might not be happy with the mattress you choose, so make sure to read the terms and conditions carefully.

05. Stick to well-known, high-quality brands

Well-known, reputable mattress companies are committed to studying the intricacies of sleep quality. As such, you do well in trusting their expertise regarding durable materials and advanced sleep technology.

Sealy has over a century of experience with mattress technology and has developed many structures and innovations, including the revolutionary Posturepedic Technology feature. Remember—quality sleep enhances life quality. So it’s best to trust the experts.

Revolutionise your life with the Sealy Effect

Good sleep can improve the quality of your life because it has a ripple effect on almost every area of your life. This ripple effect is what we call the Sealy Effect, and it explains how sleep can impact your health, productivity and relationships.

We spend one-third of our lives sleeping, and having the right mattress is crucial to getting a good night’s sleep, and ultimately being the healthier, more productive person, you want to be. Sealy mattresses are built with an interconnected spring system topped with foam and comfort layers that support the ideal sleeping posture – meaning the body is in its natural position to fully relieve muscular tension. Sealy Posturepedic supports your life by providing undisturbed sleep, which translates into the Sealy Effect.

The Sealy Effect: Improved brain function

Sleep is important for your brain because it rests while you sleep and prepares for the next day. As you sleep, your brain forms new neuropathways, which helps with learning, remembering and problem-solving. With the Sealy Effect, you can easily focus on tasks and find solutions. This is why the Better Sleep Council says sleep is key to your professional success. Get your 40 winks and your co-workers will love you!

The Sealy Effect: Better relationships

When you get enough good quality sleep, your brain has time to organise and process your emotions. The Sealy Effect means better problem-solving skills, less irritability and better stress management.

The Sealy Effect: Athletic achievement

Sleep has been shown to enhance athletic performance because it improves speed, accuracy and reaction time. Give your body the Sealy Effect if you’re looking for some physical gains.

The Sealy Effect: Stronger heart

When you sleep, your body goes through a healing process, which includes the repair of your heart and blood vessels. When you don’t get enough sleep, you are at a higher risk for heart disease, diabetes, kidney malfunction, and stroke.

The Sealy Effect: Maintain a healthy weight

Sleep also keeps your hormones balanced. When you’re sleep deprvied, your hunger hormones are out of balance and you eat more because you feel hungry. With the Sealy Effect, you have enough energy and motivation to do that exercise class and make healthier food choices.

The Sealy Effect: Emotional wellbeing

The relationship between sleep and depression is deeper than you think, says the Better Sleep Council. Sleep plays an important role in looking after your mental health, because it aids in the production of serotonin. If you are getting enough sleep, between seven and nine hours each night, your body will be better equipped to help you recalibrate after a bad day, improve your outlook on life and be better prepared to meet challenges. This is the Sealy Effect in your life.

The Sealy Effect: Stronger immune system

According to the Better Sleep Council, healthy sleep is essential to produce specialised immune substances called cytokines. These cytokines are highly essential to activate inflammatory reaction whenever any foreign particles or microbes enter our body. With the Sealy Effect, your immune system will be stronger.

One of the most important factors for sleep quality: Your mattress

Now that you know how the Sealy Effect could change your life, how do you know if you need a new mattress?  Typically, mattresses last between five and 10 years.

You may need a new mattress if:

  • You’re tired all the time
  • You toss and turn all night
  • Your current mattress is sagging
  • You can’t get comfortable on your mattress
  • It’s just as easy to fall asleep on the sofa or floor as it is the bed

Here are some tips for choosing the right mattress:

  • Your body should be distributed evenly across the sleeping surface
  • While laying down, your body should be well supported across the shoulders, hips, back, and ribs
  • Your spine should be aligned in a neutral position with the rest of your body
  • Type of mattress (memory foam, gel, spring coil, pillow-top, etc.)

Sealy has a wide range of mattresses to suit your sleep position, personal preference and budget. Whether you are looking for pressure relief for your shoulders or hips, support for your lower back or are simply wanting to wake up feeling better, you will find your answer in a Sealy Posturepedic bed.

Sealy Posturepedic supports your life by providing undisturbed sleep: from ultra-plush to cushion firm, built with premium materials, and handcrafted right here in South Africa. The next time you’re looking for a bed that offers you full body comfort, be sure to ask for Sealy by name.

Tips for a good relationship with your new mattress

I’m no relationship expert, but I know that new relationships come with some do’s and don’ts that when loosely followed, can make the new partnership happier with the promise of a blissful future together. The same applies to your relationship with your new mattress.

Read any relationship blog, and you’ll find a list of tips for navigating relations with your new love interest. Expect tips like don’t move too fast, do let go of the past, don’t neglect the rest of your life, do show appreciation, etc., etc.

Thankfully, a relationship with your new sleep system is far less complicated. However, it’s no less important! Treat your new Sealy well and you can look forward to many nights of happy slumber… which could affect that other new relationship in your life! Studies have shown that a lack of sleep can negatively impact your love life. In fact, a growing body of research is highlighting more than a few ways that sleep predicts important aspects of relationships, from attracting a desirable partner to finding and staying in a happy relationship. Dream Big, Win Big

Increase your chances of winning by posting a pic of your new Sealy to our Facebook page, but make sure you have registered your warranty first to make it valid.

Read on for tips on how to keep your Sealy bouncing back in perfect shape night after night for years to come.

The Do’s for your relationship with your new Sealy

  • Let the mattress breathe and air when removing it from its plastic packaging.
  • Use a washable mattress protector to prolong the life of your mattress.
  • Register your warranty on the Sealy website.
  • Follow the rotation cycle to extend the comfort and support life of your new Sealy set. You will find instructions and diagrams on your warranty card, but you can also click here to read information on the Sealy website: New Mattress rotational cycle
  • Remember that body shaped impressions are normal as your body adjusts to your new mattress and the comfort layers settle.
  • Be patient. It can take up to 60 days for your new mattress to feel like home.
  • Sleep on it consistently. This will help with the ‘breaking-in process’. You need time to get used to each other!
  • Give your mattress a firm and sturdy foundation. Putting your high-end Sealy on and old, rickety base negates the positives of your new mattress and might even damage it.

The Don’ts for your relationship with your new Sealy

  • Don’t bend or roll your mattress. This will permanently damage the spring unit and invalidate any warranty claims.
  • Don’t wet your mattress as this could affect the upholstery layers, causing them to compress and become damaged.
  • Mattresses are heavy, so don’t attempt to move the mattress by yourself, especially if it’s a bigger size.
  • If fitted with handles, these should only be used to position the mattress. They might pull out if used to support the full mass of the mattress.
  • Don’t flip your mattress! Sealy mattresses are no-flip mattresses.
  • Don’t stand or jump on your new Sealy. That’s mattress abuse! Mattresses are not built for that kind of weight concentration.
  • Don’t remove the label on your mattress, because that will void your warranty. The label helps with identification.

When you buy a new Sealy, make sure it’s #ClearlyASealy

When it comes to buying a new bed, choosing the RIGHT mattress could mean the difference between waking up feeling exhausted with body aches, or totally refreshed and ready to conquer the challenges of the day ahead. In this blog post we explain how to make sure that bed you spotted in the store is #ClearlyASealy and not a cheaper-quality mattress advertised as a Sealy, and we include a few other tips on how to choose a new bed.

How to make sure it’s #ClearlyASealy

When shopping for your new Sealy, it is safest to make sure you are purchasing your bed from an Authorised Sealy Retailer, and you receive an official invoice. Remember, our list of authorised retailers are on the Sealy website. Click here to view a list of Sealy retailers. If the store you’re shopping at isn’t on this list, contact us to check if that store is in fact authorised to sell Sealy mattresses.

If you visit different stores testing out the various Sealy beds, the specific models might not be an exact match. Sealy retailers choose their own bed names, so when you shop at different stores, the names will be different. Browse the Sealy website to view the full range from which retailers choose certain models to sell.

All Sealy mattresses come with a warranty, which will protect you in the unlikely event of a factory defect. Once you purchase your Sealy, visit our website to register your warranty.

With so many mattress options to choose from, buying a new bed can be exhausting. As the sleep experts, we’ve rounded up some of our top tips to help you make the right decision. A good mattress should last at least eight years, so think about this as an investment in your health and take the time to find the right mattress.

You will know it’s time to buy a new bed if your current mattress is more than eight to 10 years old, is sagging in the middle, springs are sticking out or the mattress is lumpy, and you can’t get comfortable or you wake up tired with aches and pains.

Before shopping for a new bed

Before you start bed shopping, take some time to think about your sleep habits. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Are you a side sleeper or do you usually sleep on your back? Your answer could help you choose the best comfort level.
  • What comfort level do you prefer? Firm or plush? Or something in between?
  • Do you know what type of mattress you’re currently sleeping on?
  • Does your current mattress have the right comfort and support level for you?

Comfort preference is a personal choice. All Sealy mattresses, no matter what comfort you choose, offer excellent deep-down spinal support. Weight can also play a factor in choosing mattress firmness. Sealy offers an Extra Firm mattress, especially made with high density fillings and foams, to provide support for heavier people.

Before buying your new bed it’s a good idea to measure your current mattress and bed set, and the room itself, so you can be sure that your choice will actually fit the space you have available for it. If you have the space, you might want to entertain the idea of getting a bigger bed. Remember that Sealy manufactures extra length mattresses for that extra leg room!

In-store shopping for a new bed

  • Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes and take your time. The only way to be sure about which mattress is right for you is to spend time on it. Don’t be shy about trying each one in order to get a feel for the differences. Take your shoes off and spend about 15 minutes lying on each mattress in your normal sleeping position, until you find the comfort and support you’ll be happy with.
  • If you are sharing the bed with another person, it’s a good idea for both of you to test out the options.
  • Think about pillows. You can take your favourite pillow with so you’re able to replicate your normal sleeping environment or some stores also offer pillows for you to test while trying out the bed.
  • Take notes on how comfortable you are on each of mattress so you can narrow down your selection.

Before buying a new bed

Once you find the comfort level and support you like best, talk to the salesperson about the following –

  • Ask about the return policy, as some retailers will sometimes offer a sleep trial. This is a period of time such as 30–90 nights where you’ll get the chance to break in the product and really decide if it’s the right long-term solution for you. This time frame varies, so be sure to find out exactly what the policy is.
  • Ask how long you should expect the mattress to last and find out if there are any warranties that come with it. If so, what do they cover and for how long? Read the warranty conditions carefully.

If you’re shopping online

  • Know the comfort level you prefer
  • Buy from a trusted brand
  • When you buy from a trusted brand like Sealy, you can trust that the brand will be around to honour warranty and guarantee conditions
  • If you choose a Sealy, visit the Sealy website to make sure you are buying from an approved Sealy dealer
  • Shop at a retailer you trust and are comfortable to deal with
  • Pay close attention to the returns policy

Most importantly, think of your purchase as a valuable investment in yourself and your health because getting a good night’s sleep sets you up to tackle the challenges of everyday life with all the energy and enthusiasm you need.

Mattress shopping this Black Friday? Check out these tips

Every year, people  jump in their car and head to one of the craziest but cheapest days of the year, Black Friday. This year will definitely look a little different. If anything could stop the madness of Black Friday, it would be a world pandemic.

With Coronavirus hitting us at the beginning of the year and still showing its effects today, many of us are staying indoors. Yet, some restrictions have somewhat been lifted, allowing for Black Friday to possibly continue on as it has in previous years. However, the factors we need to keep in mind this year are not only our physical safety but our health safety too.

Going out and buying a cheap refrigerator or snagging a blender that’s 50% off is one thing, but heading to the store and walking away with Covid-19 is another. So how can communities make this work?

It’s vital to remember that just like every other day, stores will have limited restrictions on who enters. You won’t be able to shove through those front doors but will have to go back to your primary school days where you needed to practice patience and line up to wait for your turn. For your entire shopping experience, wearing a mask and practicing social distancing will be of the utmost importance. Masks will most definitely need to be worn inside the store, but while waiting in line, it’s a great idea to start your safety precautions there. The same goes with social distancing, keeping two metres distance from yourself and the person in front and behind you can lower the risks of spreading the virus.

In saying this, many stores will be encouraging their online sales this year. If you aren’t an avid online shopper, here are some tips to help you get the best deals and practice safe shopping.

Keep cybersecurity top of mind

An online sale often requires you to act quickly, especially on Black Friday, but don’t unnecessarily open yourself up to risk. Make sure the website you’re purchasing from is secure by checking the website address in your browser. There should be an “https” at the start of the website address. The “s” means the site is secure and your data is safe, so avoid shopping on any sites that don’t have the “s”. Click here to read more online safety tips.

Practice beforehand and create accounts

It may sound kind of silly, but if you haven’t been shopping online before, it could be a little tricky for you. To help with this, you can practice beforehand. Head to some of your favourite stores online, which will most likely have “create an account” options available for you, and practice putting items into your shopping cart. Creating the accounts will make shopping easier on Black Friday and practicing shopping may help lessen the stress of the unknown.

Stick to brands and stores you know

Trust remains a crucial issue online and while some sites may say they have 90% off, that doesn’t always mean the site is trustworthy. If you are new to this, stick to the brands and stores you know and love. If you want to step outside of the box, make sure to carry out your research beforehand so you don’t end up being scammed.

Research the products you want

Every so often we get so caught up in the madness that we don’t actually purchase products that are of good quality or that we need. While being online anyway, do some research on what you are buying to make sure you are receiving exactly what you need.  It’s helpful to look for reviews, to see what other customers have said about the product.

If you’re buying a mattress online, make sure you know your preferences beforehand (if you like a firm or soft bed, how much support you need, etc.).

Stores selling the same products

Being Black Friday, the chance of websites crashing and products selling out is reasonably high. You can attempt to avoid this by listing the stores that have the products you are looking for. With this, if one store doesn’t have the ability to handle the influx of customers or have run out of the product, you can quickly jump to the next store.

*Bonus tip: leave tabs open on your internet browser with the various online stores so you can quickly jump over to the next one.

Wishlist

Often online stores allow you to create wishlists. This means you can highlight the products that you want and keep them in a little list attached to your account. Once the prices drop, instead of stressing about time and going through every product on sale, you can simply go to your wishlist and add the items to your cart to check out.

Is it really on sale?

Often we can get so frantic while doing something as fast as we can that we don’t realise that we may not actually be getting a deal. If something is on sale, it can look great! But if that sale is only 15% off instead of 80-90%, then that deal may not actually be worth it at all. Make sure to check what the price is beforehand, and then what the sale price is to make sure you are really getting the bargain you were hoping for.

Black Friday will ultimately look different this year, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to dive into some great bargains. If heading out to take on the stores is something you want to do or have to do, please make sure to take proper precautions to not only keep yourself safe but keep others safe too. For those online shoppers, take the steps above to make your online shopping experience cheaper, safer and a little less stressful. We hope you are able to find the bargains you need. Happy shopping!

Baby cot: create a safe sleep environment

Keeping your baby’s sleeping environment safe is one of the biggest concerns that new and expecting parents have. The general recommendations are to keep your baby cot free of any kind of object, place your infant in a safe sleeping position and pay attention to the softness of the sleep surface.

In this post, we discuss the best ways to keep your baby’s sleeping environment safe so that you can sleep easy. We’ll outline safe sleeping positions, how to dress your baby for certain temperatures, as well as the importance of a high-quality cot mattress.

Remove toys from the baby cot

Toys, blankets, and comforters – no matter how small – can pose a risk of suffocation to babies. Keep your baby cot a toy-free zone and keep comforters for use during the day when you can watch your little one.

Dress your baby for the temperature of the room as opposed to using blankets – see below for guidelines.

Keep the room cool

It’s recommended that your baby sleeps in an environment of between 20-22 degrees as a way to reduce the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). As it’s not always easy to control the heat of a room, here are a few guidelines for how to dress your baby depending on the temperature:

Room temperature How to dress your baby
27+ degrees Nappy
26 degrees Short-sleeve bodysuit
24-25 degrees Short-sleeve bodysuit + sleeping bag
22-23 degrees Sleepsuit + sleeping bag
20-21 degrees Short-sleeve bodysuit + sleepsuit + sleeping bag
18-19 degrees Long-sleeve bodysuit + sleepsuit + sleeping bag
16-17 degrees Long-sleeve bodysuit + sleepsuit + sleeping bag + socks
Below 16 degrees Long-sleeve bodysuit + sleepsuit + sleeping bag + hat + socks + gloves

To easily check the temperature of your little one’s room and dress them accordingly, you could invest in a nursery room thermometer.

Buy a high-quality cot mattress

A high-quality mattress is crucial for creating a safe sleep environment for your baby. Sealy cot mattresses are hypoallergenic and provide the perfect support for your baby’s growing body. Each mattress comes with a mattress protector to keep it safe from all of those baby spills!

Place them on their back to sleep

Placing your baby on their back to sleep is an important way to keep their airways clear during the night. Sleeping in this position can dramatically reduce the risk of SIDS.

This position is recommended for the first year of life but is particularly important during the first six months. Even when placing your baby on his/her back to sleep, avoid placing them on soft surfaces as these can pose a suffocation hazard.

Keep your house smoke-free

Keeping your baby away from smoke is important for keeping their airways clear and healthy. If you smoke, make sure that you smoke outside your house – away from your baby – and that you remove your jacket before holding your baby.

Follow these tips to keep your baby’s sleeping environment safe, reduce the risk of SIDS, and ensure that you get a great night’s sleep.
